PORT NECHES, Texas (Oct. 9)—Carbon black producer Ameripol Synpol Corp., which had closed its Port Neches production facility Oct. 1 because of Hurricane Lili, has remained temporarily idle to handle preventive maintenance and repairs at the site. The plant will be closed for between seven and 10 days, a spokesman said, and all employees will remain on the payroll. When the facility resumes operations, probably around Oct. 18, contract workers will be recalled as needed, the company said in a prepared statement. Like many companies along the Louisiana and Texas coast, Ameripol Synpol closed its facility and evacuated workers Oct. 1 to ensure their safety, the firm said. Hurricane Lili's path took the storm further east and no physical damage occurred at the site.
