CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Sept. 13)—Replacements for more than 595,000 recalled Continental ContiTrac and General Grabber tires are well under way, despite reports to the contrary, according to a top official of Continental Tire North America Inc. Some 60,000 replacement ContiTrac SUV and TR tires, size P265/70R17, have been sent to Ford dealers around the U.S. for Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator owners who require immediate replacements, said Mark Sowka, Continental vice president of original equipment. This is about 75 percent of dealer requests so far, he said. A "USA Today" article Sept. 12 reported shortages of replacement tires and complaints from dissatisfied Expedition and Navigator owners.
