WASHINGTON (Aug.27)—U.S. total tire shipments showed a 1.1-percent decrease from a year-earlier, slipping to 28.9 million units in May, according to data gathered by the Rubber Manufacturers Association. Canadian tire shipments also dropped during month, slipping 7.4 percent to 2.5 million units, the Rubber Association of Canada reported. U.S. light and medium truck tire shipments rose 5.8 and 5.7 percent, respectively, for the month while passenger shipments declined 2.6 percent. Canadian light truck deliveries rose slightly in May, but all other categories decreased, with passenger shipments leading the decline, falling 8.8 percent.
