TORONTO (Aug. 21)—Unisphere Waste Conversion Ltd. has completed negotiations on a 10-year agreement with Finnish waste recycling firm Metso Corp. for exclusive North American rights to Metso's patented tire pyrolysis system. Toronto-based Unisphere placed its own pyrolysis technology ·in mothballsö because Metso's system was superior, according to Unisphere Technical Director Bruce Jank. "We went with Metso because of their reverse engineering in further development of the technology," Jank said. "They looked at the deficiencies in previous systems and designed around those deficiencies." Unisphere will break ground for its first pyrolysis facility in Belledune, New Brunswick, in the spring, with a projected completion date of November 2003.
