Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics Inc. has developed a new, thicker-gauge polyurethane foam bonding tape that provides added energy dissipating qualities needed in demanding applications. Part of the Normount V2800 series, the closed-cell urethane foam is 0.09 inches thick and has the firm´s acrylic adhesive on both sides. Saint-Gobain said it is offering this new thickness in response to industry demands for a bonding tape for large-gap joining that provides added stress-absorbing properties. The bonding tapes are used in a variety of industrial and automotive applications in place of mechanical fasteners. The firm also has released a color catalog describing its Korel-brand series of microcellular polyurethane gasketing products. The high-performance gaskets are used where high resiliency and resistance to compression set are required, like protection for delicate instruments and electronic devices. Korel also can be used where moisture or extreme environmental conditions or chemicals are present, the company said.
