GREENSBURG, Pa. (July 26)—Donald D. Mateer, chairman, CEO and president of Greensburg-based specialty tire and industrial products maker Polymer Enterprises Inc., died of pulmonary complications July 25. He was 75. Mateer was first elected president of the company—the parent of Indiana, Pa.-based Specialty Tires of America Inc.—in 1982. He led the firm from "technical insolvency to be one of the most successful companies in the U.S. rubber industry," a Polymer Enterprises release said. "To Polymer's shareholders, management and employees, Don was a leader, mentor and friend. He will be missed by all of us," the statement said.
