PARIS (July 1)—A "large and prestigious" German auto maker will become Groupe Michelin's second customer for its Pax run-flat tire/wheel system, the tire maker announced. The identity of the car maker and models involved will be divulged at the Paris Auto Salon in September, according to Pierre Menedes, Michelin marketing manager. With Michelin no longer supplying General Motors Corp. in Europe, that leaves DaimlerChrysler A.G., BMW A.G. or Volkswagen A.G. as the possible partner. France's Renault S.A. has been selling its Scenic minivan with Pax tires since 2001, first as option and then, beginning earlier this year, as standard equipment on the Fairway and Sportway luxury versions. Michelin is seeking to reinforce its image as a maker of upscale products. It has been supplying tires to Porsche's racing vehicles since the beginning of the year.
