BANGKOK (June 27)—Bridgestone Corp. declined comment on a Dow Jones News Service report from Bangkok that Bridgestone tried to forge long-term rubber contracts with several Thai natural rubber exporters. A statement from Bridgestone's Tokyo headquarters said officials from the tire maker's NR-purchasing subsidiary "periodically visit rubber producers in Thailand to exchange information on the local rubber situation." The Dow Jones report said Bridgestone wanted to beat recent sharp increases in NR prices and restrictions in supply, but the Thai exporters feared that long-term contracts would only depress prices.
