AKRON (June 19)—May industry shipments of consumer and commercial replacement tires in North America were down 4 and 3 percent, respectively, from last year's levels, according to Goodyear's monthly investor report released June 19. Goodyear shipments in those categories were below industry shipment levels. Industry shipments for the month on the original equipment side were up nearly 1 percent from 2001 for consumer tires and 14 percent for commercial tires, the Goodyear report said. The company's OE shipments bested the industry for consumer tires but fell below the industry for commercial tires.
