STRASBOURG, France (June 19)—Lord Corp. has opened its European Technology Center in suburban Strasbourg, but said it won't be fully operational until early September. The new facility, in Mundolsheim, "will enhance Lord's capability to provide its European customers with localized custom diagnostic, testing, simulation, modeling and design services for both aerospace and industrial applications," the company said in a prepared statement. The center will feature state-of-the-art computer-aided engineering and computed-aided design capabilities, as well as dynamics diagnostic and testing equipment, Lord said. It also has a laboratory for testing solutions on customers' vehicles or mechanical systems as part of joint development programs. The center will support Lord's growing European business, which it expanded considerably in 2000 by buying Metal Gomma S.p.A. of Monzambano, Italy. Lord did not disclose the investment in the center.
