CHARLOTTE, N.C. (June 13)—After announcing Fenner P.L.C.'s purchase of Unipoly S.A. in November 2001, Fenner said it would close two Scandura Inc. belting facilities in Charlotte but now will continue its lightweight polyvinyl chloride production at one of the sites, said Randy Kelley, president of Conveyor Belting Americas for Fenner. The 115,000-sq-ft. lightweight belting business will remain and will house Scandura and Georgia Duck-Enerka's lightweight belting production, Kelley said. "Early after the acquisition we listened to our customers, and we were very clearly convinced that heavyweight production should be focused on at a separate facility and that all of our lightweight PVC production should stay in Charlotte," Kelley said. About 30 employees will work at the facility.
