ARNHEM, Netherlands (May 31)—Acordis Industrial Fibers has invested an undisclosed amount in a new, cost-efficient one-step process for making polyester tire yarns. The process, for spinning advanced generation HMLS (high-modulus low-shrinkage) Diolen polyester tire yarn, will first be installed at Acordis' site in Emmen, Netherlands, where start-up is scheduled for the first quarter of 2003. The high-speed technology allows spinning at up to 7,000 meters/minute, according to an Acordis statement. The process also will be used at Acordis' polyester yarn operations in Scottsboro, Ala., and Camacari, Brazil.
