MIDLAND, Mich. (May 30)—Sumitomo Rubber Industries Ltd. and Dow Polyurethanes have agreed to work together on polyurethane support technology for the PAX run-flat tire system that Sumitomo licenses from Groupe Michelin. Dow and Michelin have been working together on the support technology since September 2000. The project will be carried out by Sumitomo and Dow Polyurethanes Japan Ltd., part of Dow Chemical Japan Ltd. The agreement aims to combine Dow's knowledge of polyurethane and manufacturing processes with Sumitomo´s design and testing expertise and develop support components for SRIPAX—Sumitomo´s version of the PAX run-flat system developed by Michelin.
