KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (May 22)—Sime Darby Berhad's board is considering merging the tire operations of its DMIB Berhad and Sime Tires International (M) Sdn. Bhd. units. The new DMIB/STI business eventually would become a private company, and Sime Derby also wants the new firm to buy several current engineering services and trading companies of Sime Darby. Merging the two tire operations, "will enable the sharing of resources—i.e. plant and machinery, research and development, marketing, procurement, logistics and marketing networks," according to a Sime Derby statement.
