HANOVER, Germany (May 23)—ContiTech Power Transmission Systems has broken ground on a 37,000-sq.-ft. automotive drive belt plant in Timisoara, Romania. The new company, ContiTech Romania s.r.l., will start production of the drive belts in October. ContiTech's initial investment is about $5.2 million. Initial employment will be 50, ContiTech said, with employment tripling to 150 by 2005. Output will be 4 million drive belts for European auto makers.
