McGAW PARK, Ill. (May 17)—Cardinal Health Inc. subsidiary Allegiance Healthcare Corp. said it has a patent pending for an Internet-based procedure pack management service called PackManager. The system is used in hospitals and other health care facilities to design custom surgical procedure packs, which are manufactured and distributed by Allegiance. The packs contain all the single-use supplies needed to perform different procedures, from treating a simple cut to open heart surgery, an Allegiance spokeswoman said. With PackManager, health care providers can create and modify packs online, analyze and standardize their use, evaluate options to save costs, and manage pack inventory, she said. The system also includes a national database of best-demonstrated practices in supply usage and management, the company said.
