GULFPORT, Miss. (May 6)—A Gulfport businessman's plan to start a local tire recycling business has been held up by questions from Gulfport's zoning board. "We're the first tire recycler in southern Mississippi, so a decision hasn't been made as to what zoning area we go into," said William Earl Brown regarding his plans to start Gulfport Tire Recycling in an existing building on Giles Road in Gulfport. When open, the plant will handle about 800,000 tires annually and employ six production-line workers and 10-20 tire collectors, according to Brown.
