CHICAGO (May 3)—The Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals has overturned an Indianapolis federal district judge´s certification of a non-injury class action against Ford Motor Co. and Bridgestone/Firestone Inc. The class action was designed to reimburse Ford Explorer and Firestone tire owners for reputed financial losses, but the appeals court agreed with Ford and Firestone that both the action and the potential millions of plaintiffs were unwieldy. The appeals court´s decision "demonstrates and articulates why these cases are not suitable for class certification," the tire maker said in a prepared statement. There was no word on whether the plaintiffs´ attorneys behind the class action would appeal.
