DEARBORN, Mich. (April 3)—Tokai Rubber Industries Ltd. has established a formal, technical presence for its anti-vibration products in the Detroit area through the creation of TRI Technical Center U.S.A. Inc. The parent company of hose maker DTR Industries Inc. and AVS products manufacturer DTR Tennessee Inc. is temporarily operating from a Dearborn site while constructing its 18,000-sq.-ft. technical center in the northern Detroit suburb of Novi. Tokai is investing about $4.8 million in the technical center and equipment. A staff of about 10 people currently is doing development work for Ford Motor Co., said TRI General Manger Greg Lewandowski. The Japanese transplant supplier will target development contracts in the future with the other domestic auto makers, but research and development on anti-vibration products for Japanese car companies will continue to be handled from Japan, he said.
