LUMBER CITY, Ga. (March 12)—The assets of Amercord Inc., a manufacturer of tire bead wire and tire cord until it was shut last year, are for sale. GMAC Business Credit L.L.C. is handling the sale. Amercord operated a 486,00-sq.-ft. plant in Lumber City, making bead wire, tire cord and medium-carbon wire products. Among the assets on site are 212 wire drawing machines, five patenting lines, 10 continuous wire plating lines and 462 bunching machines for tire cord, GMAC Business Credit said. The plant operated at a capacity of 70,000 to 115,000 tons a year, the liquidator said. Amercord, one of only two independent U.S. suppliers of tire cord and bead wire, at one time was owned 50-50 by Associated Materials Inc. and Canadian steel wire maker Ivaco Inc.
