DETROIT (Feb. 20)—Ford Motor Co. knowingly sold defective vehicles and parts—including Firestone tires later recalled—at a now-shuttered salvage subsidiary for experimental and test vehicles, according to a lawsuit filed in Detroit federal district court. Seventy-five former employees of Environ Inc. said they were threatened with dismissal unless they went along with the sale of such vehicles as 2,000 flood-damaged Ford Explorers and Mercury Mountaineers equipped with the same Firestone Wilderness AT tires later blamed for 271 highway deaths. A Ford spokeswoman said the lawsuit's allegations were false.
