ROANOKE, Texas (Feb. 19)—Hillwood, a Dallas land development company owned by Ross Perot, has broken ground on a 608,322-sq.-ft. building that Bridgestone/Firestone North American Tire L.L.C. will lease as a distribution center. Roanoke, a Dallas/Fort Worth suburb, was chosen for its rail and freeway access and its solid labor market, Bridgestone/Firestone said. When finished, the center will have a capacity of 750,000 tires, ranging from passenger to large off-road, and will supply tires and auto parts to a nine-state area including South Dakota and Wyoming. As part of the groundbreaking, Bridgestone/Firestone donated a year's supply of tires to the Roanoke Fire Department's emergency rescue units.
