WASHINGTON (Feb. 12)—The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has denied Bridgestone/Firestone's request for a defect investigation of the Ford Explorer. "The data does not support Firestone's contention that Explorersàare more likely to" cause drivers to lose control following a tire tread separation than other sport-utility vehicles, according to a NHTSA news release. Ford and Firestone officials could not be reached for comment.
