WASHINGTON (Feb. 4)—Goodyear voluntarily will replace 200,000 Load Range E tires, size LT24575R16, to end controversy over alleged tread separations. More than 250 types, sizes and brands of tires are available in the in Load Range E line, but only 51 are involved in the replacement program, most were used mainly on 15 passenger vans and ambulances, Goodyear said. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, meanwhile, said it will announce the end of its investigation of the Goodyear Load Range E tires, probably this week. NHTSA began its preliminary investigation late in 2000, based on reports of accidents resulting in 15 deaths and 125 injuries.
