NOKIAN, Finland (Jan. 23)—Because of weaker than estimated sales in December, Nokian Tyres P.L.C.'s net sales and profit increase for the fourth quarter were below expectations, the tire maker said. Net sales in 2001 grew 6 percent to $378.7 million and operating profit increased 28 percent to $44.8 million, based on unaudited figures. Nokian will release its final 2001 financial figures Feb. 15.
