ARNHEM, Netherlands (Jan. 7)—Acordis Industrial Fibers B.V. is expanding capacity for technical polyester yarns by 30 percent and modernizing tire cord conversion capacity at its plant in Camacari, Brazil. Acordis is raising polyester yarn capacity at its Cobafi—Companhia Bahiana de Fibrasùfacility to 14,000 metric tons using a specially developed new process technology, the firm said. The new capacity will come on stream in late 2002. Polyester yarn produced at the factory is used in tires, conveyor belts, coated fabrics for truck tarpaulins, architectural structures, sun protection, mooring ropes, seat belts and conveyor belt fabrics. Acordis also is modernizing Cobafi's conversion capacity by using the latest generation twisting and weaving equipment.
