WEST CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa. (Dec. 28)—The American Society for Testing and Materials has changed its name to ASTM International to demonstrate the openness of the ASTM standards development process to a worldwide scope as well as reflecting the global application and use of ASTM standards, according to the organization. "From its inception, the ASTM method of developing standards has been based on consensus without borders," said James A. Thomas ASTM International president. About 40 percent of the ASTM standards currently distributed go outside the U.S., the organization said.
