PITTSBURGH (Dec. 26)—Bayer Corp. will purchase a portion of Lyondell Chemical Co.'s aliphatic diisocyanates (ADI) assets, including its remaining Luxate product inventories and intellectual properties. September, Lyondell decided to exit this business and close its 8,000 metric tons per year ADI facilities, which are based at Lake Charles, La. Under a deal which is due to take effect on Jan. 1, Bayer will "work closely with Lyondell and their customers to supply the remaining Luxate products and help them through this transition period," said John Williams, president of Bayer´s Coatings and Colorants Division, in a company statement. Lyondell´s ADI portfolio include hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI), isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI) and aliphatic polyisocyanates. The products are used to make polyurethane coatings for industrial, automotive and home appliance applications.
