WASHINGTON (Dec.21)—The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave a double-barreled Christmas present to the tire and auto industries: Its proposed rules on tire information labeling revisions and early warning of product defects, both issued just before the holiday. The Rubber Manufacturers Association has concerns about the labeling proposal's requirement to place the tire identification number on both sides of the tire, while the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers called the early warning proposal "a thoughtful step toward faster information flow."
