TOKYO (Dec. 11)—A Bridgestone Corp. spokesman in Tokyo said his company is very disappointed about being kept as a defendant in a lawsuit involving its U.S. subsidiary, and willappeal to a higher court. Davidson County (Tenn.) Circuit Judge Thomas Brothers refused to excuse Bridgestone from 23 lawsuits filed by 58 Mexican nationals. The personal injury suits involve rollover accidents on Ford Explorers equipped with Firestone tires made by Bridgestone/Firestone Inc. Bridgestone was named as a defendant along with Ford and Bridgestone/Firestone. Bridgestone attorneys argued the county court has no jurisdiction over Bridgestone, because it is a foreign company and doesn't control Bridgestone/Firestone's day-to-day operations.
