SANTA ANA, Calif. (Dec. 11)—Officials of the Federal Aviation Administration have agreed to investigate tire blowouts on Boeing MD-90 aircraft operated by Delta Airlines, according to a spokeswoman for John Wayne Airport near Santa Ana. Airport officials wrote the FAA after blowouts in December 2000 and November 2001 had closed the airport's main runway for hours, the spokeswoman said. She declined to speculate on the cause of the blowouts, saying that was a matter for Delta Airlines, whose officials couldn't be reached for comment.
