WASHINGTON (Dec. 10)—Representatives of government, the retread industry and retreading organizations met today at the Office of the Federal Environmental Executive to discuss ways of maximizing government procurement of retread tires. They planned to continue the meetings tomorrow. The Environmental Protection Agency officially defined retreading as a recycling technology in 1988, thus mandating government agency purchase of retreads, and President Clinton followed up in 1993 with an executive order on maximizing retread procurement.
