AKRON (Dec. 3)—Goodyear has restructured its North American Tire business unit to focus on distinct business segments and shifted some executive positions as a result of the changes, the tire maker announced Nov. 30. The split into segments—Consumer Replacement, Consumer Original Equipment, Commercial and Farm and Retail—will allow the North American Tire unit to "better focus on (the company's) key businesses to achieve improved results, both financially and operationally," said John Polhemus, North American Tire president. Goodyear also announced a reorganization of its consumer field support into East and West regions. Eight regional offices under the previous structure will be closed in the next six months, with support operations to be centralized in Akron, the firm said.
