CLEVELAND (Nov. 29)—PolyOne Corp. said it will create nine Centers of Manufacturing Excellence among its vinyl compound plants. The development of the centers will include gradual production transfers among the sites with completion targeted for 2002, along with a $19 million investment and installation of new equipment and processing at the sites. PolyOne vinyl compound facilities affected by the plan are located in Avon Lake, Ohio; Long Beach, Calif.; Louisville, Ky.; Niagara Falls and Orangeville, Ontario; Pasadena, Texas; Plaquemine, La.; St. Remi de Napierville, Quebec; and Terra Haute, Ind. After the centers are established and production has been transferred on a customer-by-customer basis, PolyOne will close its three remaining vinyl compound sites in Burlington and Farmingdale, N.J., and Valleyfield, Quebec.
