WOLFSBURG, Germany (Nov. 20)—Volkswagen A.G. has finished developing the Internet exchange it began in the summer of 2000. The site has enabled online catalogues for purchasing, auction capability and capacity management. More than 5,500 suppliers already have been using individual elements of the marketplace, Volkswagen said, with 500,000 transactions taking place this year alone on VW Group Supply.com. "The investments made have already paid for themselves through the savings made in process, logistics and material costs—and all this much earlier than expected," the company said in a written statement. The Group's process times have decreased 95 percent through simplified procurement procedures and optimized logistical processes. Most of the procurement volume of more than $44.1 million of the Volkswagen Group— Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Seat, Skoda, Volkswagen and Volkswagen commerical vehicle brands—will be managed through the site in the future, the car maker said.
