EPE, Netherlands (Nov. 14)—VMI Epe Holland B.V. is teaming up with Italian curing press maker CIMA Impianti S.p.A. to promote CIMA's CTC Press, a tire curing system the companies claim increases uniformity while using less energy. For VMI, the deal adds curing presses to its portfolio, allowing it to promote itself as complete supplier of components for modular tire manufacturing cells. VMI's modular concept incorporates in-line manufacture of components by direct extrusion, single-stage tire building, curing and inspection using standard equipment. The CTC press differs in several ways from conventional curing presses: It uses mechanical clamping, electricity to heat the mold, inflates the bladder with nitrogen and has the mold segments self-contained.
