COLUMBIA, S.C. (Nov. 14)—Michelin North America Inc. will expand an earthmoving tire plant in Lexington County, S.C. and could add a number of new jobs at the facility in the future, depending on the economy at the time. The company said the project, which probably will take place over several years, will cost about $200 million and is needed to handle the current growing demand for earthmover tires. Overall, Michelin employs 10,000 in South Carolina and 1,500 at two plants in Lexington County. However, the Greenville, S.C.-based company said earlier this year it planned to cut 2,000 jobs, half of them in South Carolina. Once new positions are created at the earthmover site, laid off employees will have an opportunity to fill those posts, a company spokesman said
