CLEVELAND (Oct. 17)—Crompton Corp. will open an accelerator finishing plant in China in the coming weeks, and is evaluating several Asia-Pacific EPDM producers for a possible acquisition. Crompton is attempting to compete more effectively with global and regional competitors, James J. Conway, executive vice president of performance chemicals and elastomers, said at the Rubber Division's Rubber Expo '01, held Oct. 16-18 in Cleveland. The new plant in China, Crompton-CNCCC Danyang Chemical Co. Ltd., marks the firm's initial move into that nation with its rubber business.
