AKRON (Oct. 17)—Smithers Scientific Services Inc. has purchased the rubber testing services unit of Noveon Inc.'s polymer additives business. The deal broadens the firm's capabilities in both equipment and personnel, according to Michael Hochschwender, president and CEO of Akron-based Smithers. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. A variety of rubber services are included in the purchase, including compounding and mixing, processability testing, sample curing and molding, and mechanical/physical testing. An undisclosed number of employees will leave Brecksville, Ohio-based Noveon, which formerly was called B.F. Goodrich Performance Materials, when the testing services are consolidated into Smithers, which should probably take three to six months.
