LAKE MARY, Fla. (Oct. 17)—BarrierMed Inc. has leased a facility in Bangkok, Thailand, to handle compounding, research and development, and serve as an Asian headquarters, according to Victor J. Ragucci, founder and CEO of the Lake Mary-based company. In addition, the company will outsource medical glove production to three manufacturers in Thailand and continue to use Abbott Laboratories Inc. in the same capacity in the U.S. Abbott makes the gloves at its Ashland, Ohio, plant and in August entered into an agreement with BarrierMed under which Abbott will produce more than a million gloves annually. Production at the recently leased facility and at the three Thailand factories is expected to begin in two weeks, he said, "and the gloves will be delivered to the U.S. shortly after that. We should be ready to fill orders Dec. 1."
