SEYMOUR, Conn. (Oct. 4)—John P. Latka, technical director of Pawling Corp.'s Custom Mixing Division, died Oct. 1 at age 53 from a massive heart attack. He joined Pawling as a rubber chemist in 1984, after working for Armstrong Rubber Co. and Syntex Rubber. In 1991 he became mixing process engineering manager, and took the technical director's post five years later. He was a participant on one of Pawling's first Total Quality Management teams, an original member of the Plant Safety Committee and a volunteer firefighter in Seymour. Latka was a 1970 graduate from Louisiana Tech University with a degree in chemistry. He is survived by his wife, Linda, and daughters Jennifer and Amy.
