CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (Oct. 2)—Synair Corp. has completed a purpose-built polyol plant at its Chattanooga polyurethane manufacturing site. The 45,500 metric ton per year unit will make urethane-grade polyether polyols, surfactants and catalysts, both for internal use and as part of Synair's toll manufacturing service. The new facility can make most polyols and allows Synair to respond to a variety of customer needs. The firm already makes one- and two-part polyurethane systems at the site under toll contracts and for the open market. In PU systems, the Tennessee site has an annual capacity of 113,400 tons. The new computer-controlled plant is built on a 47-acre site, with 30 acres for future expansion. Synair's offerings include PU systems for molding and casting, flexible and rigid foam, and elastomers.
