BROWNSVILLE, Texas (Sept. 18)—Ford Motor Co. has settled the case that might have been the first to allow a jury to decide whether the design of the Ford Explorer contributes to rollover accidents. A state court in Brownsville was set to hear oral arguments Sept. 19 in the case of Margarita Gonzalez, who was killed near Kerrville, Texas, when her family's Explorer suffered a failure of one of its Firestone tires and rolled over. Gonzalez's son, Alfredo, was seriously injured in the crash. A Ford spokeswoman said the details of the settlement were confidential. Bridgestone/Firestone Inc. settled earlier with the Gonzalez family.
