FRANKFURT, Germany (Sept. 17)—TRW Chassis Systems, a unit of TRW Inc., will supply an electro-hydraulic brake-by-wire system for two 2003 European vehicles. The manufacturer said it also is under contract with a North American car maker to develop regenerative braking based on an electro-hydraulic braking system that uses electrical connections to stop a vehicle, but still retains a hydraulic system as a backup. TRW said it does not anticipate production of an electro-mechanical braking system, which would make hydraulics obsolete, before 2005.
