FRANKFURT, Germany (Sept. 11)—Goodyear and Siemens VDO Automotive, a specialist in active electronics systems, are joining forces to develop an advanced tire pressure warning system. The joint research project will aim to develop a system to monitor low tire air pressure and excessive tire temperatures, utilizing Goodyear's expertise in tires and tire pressure monitoring and Siemens VDO's proficiency in electronics, radio frequency, wireless and vehicle system integration technologies. The agreement ties in with the passage of the Transportation Recall, Enhancement, Accountability and Documentation Act, which requires all new vehicles to have a system to alert the driver to low air pressure in one or more tires by November 2003. Both companies anticipate that other countries will enact similar legislation.
