MCALLEN, Texas (Aug. 24)—Bridgestone/Firestone Inc. reached a settlement for an undisclosed amount with the Texas family suing them for $1 billion. The settlement was announced this morning shortly after a federal court jury began a fourth day of deliberations in the case. The lawsuit was brought by the family of Marisa Rodriguez, who was paralyzed during an accident in March 2000 where a Ford Explorer with Firestone tires crashed on a Mexican road. The family had settled with Ford prior to the beginning of the trial. "Since the outset, when we provided financial assistance to help with the family's medical bills, we have been hopeful that we could reach a fair settlement that would also bring closure to them following this accident," Bridgestone/Firestone said in a statement.
