MCALLEN, Texas (Aug. 22)—The federal jury hearing the $1 billion defective-tire lawsuit against Bridgestone/Firestone Inc. began deliberations yesterday. Marisa Rodriguez and her family are suing the tire maker for that amount, claiming a defective Firestone Wilderness AT tire caused the family's Ford Explorer to flip over. Ford settled with the family for $6 million before the trial began. It is the first tire-failure suit to go to trial since Bridgestone/Firestone recalled 6.5 million tires last year.
