LAREDO, Texas (Aug. 14)—Smithers Scientific Services Inc. and Auto Testing Co. Inc. have founded a joint venture to conduct durability testing in the U.S. for DaimlerChrysler Corp. The new firm—DRIVEtest L.L.C.—is located at Auto Testing Properties Proving Ground in Laredo and is expected to be operational by Sept, Smithers said. Mario A. Perez will serve as general manager of DRIVEtest. Having worked previously for automotive component suppliers Philips Components, ITT Automotive and Delphi Chassis, Perez brings an extensive background in automotive management and engineering, Smithers said.
