LAKE MARY, Fla. (Aug. 14)—BarrierMed Inc. has landed a contract to produce non-latex surgical gloves for the Federal Supply System, which serves most military and veteran hospitals in the U.S. The deal will be worth about $25 million to the company, BarrierMed CEO Victor Ragucci said, and represents about 5 percent of the U.S. surgical market. The company, which plans to open its own manufacturing operation in Thailand in the next two years, also said it has entered an agreement with Abbott Laboratories Inc. under which Abbott will manufacture a million pairs of gloves for BarrierMed annually.
