MONTGOMERY, Ala. (Aug. 8)—A Venezuelan woman who lost her husband and son in an accident involving their Ford Explorer and its Firestone tires has filed suit against Bridgestone/Firestone Inc. and Ford Motor Co. Carmen Dominga Castillo de Zerpa was riding with her husband and son in April 2000 outside the town of Manturin, Venezuela, when their left rear tire lost its tread. The vehicle rolled over and struck a guardrail, injuring de Zerpa and killing her husband and son. Jere Beasley, the Montgomery attorney handling de Zerpa's case, said he represents several Venezuelan clients in suits against Ford and Bridgestone/Firestone, and knows of several other Venezuelan cases consolidated in the multidistrict litigation in Indianapolis.
